We are now more than one year into the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly four months into vaccinating individuals in the United States. As more people become eligible for the vaccine and supply increases, we can now start to turn the discussion towards herd immunity and what will be required to return to more normal routines. On April 22, Dr. Fiorina Kyritsi and Dr. Sonya Stokes from Mount Sinai led a one-hour live discussion on the latest information on the COVID-19 vaccines and answered your vaccine questions.

Fiorina Kyritsi, MD

Fiorina Kyritsi, MD

Fiorina Kyritsi, MD, is the Medical Director at Barclays Health Center and practices Internal Medicine. She is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Previously, Dr. Kyritsi worked as a primary care provider for the Mount Sinai Doctors in Queens and was the site director for the Ambulatory Care-Geriatrics Medical Student Clerkship. Dr. Kyritsi treats patients with a wide range of medical conditions, providing personalized primary care services with an emphasis on preventive medicine and general wellness. In addition to providing supportive care, she also promotes cancer survivorship by helping patients adjust to life after treatment and coordinating follow-up medical care.

Sonya Stokes, MD, MPH

Sonya Stokes, MD, MPH

Dr. Stokes is an assistant professor at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine in the division of emergency medicine and global health, a fellow at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in the division of biosecurity, and a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations. She specializes in health systems strengthening in low- and middle-income countries, and her research focuses on increasing access to trauma and acute care in resource-limited settings.

During the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in New York City, both Dr. Kyritsi and Dr. Stokes was part of the frontline response team treating patients.
